Non-profit cultural organization and presenter of a season of events in various venues in Worcester (primarily Mechanics Hall but also Tuckerman Hall and now Hanover Theatre. Children’s events in the past have been presented at the Technical High School’s new theatre. Chorus events are sometimes performed at Alden Memorial Hall at WPI, and at various churches/cathedrals. Master classes and mini performances have been presented at area colleges and schools. Music Worcester is the oldest continually running Music Festival in the country, having originated as the Worcester Music Festival, along with the Worcester Chorus, in 1858. In the early years the festival hosted a week of events, which eventually expanded to an entire season. While the focus was and continues to be on classical music – symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles – but has also been presenting the Mass Jazz Festival for the past 14 years. Dance performances have also become part of the season, from all over the world – Mexico, China, The Republic of Georgia, Spain, Russia – both folkloric and acrobatic troupes and classical ballet, as well as world music/drumming and much more. The Worcester Chorus is part of Music Worcester.
